When I don't want any conversation with people I used to hide my face behind the pages of a book. It always worked well for me. A couple of times they try to disturb but after getting my boring one word responses, they usually leave me alone with my book to mind their own business. This is the best way to keep people at arms length when you don't want to deal with them. Becoming totally boring, even when you are not, so that they'll leave you alone and you can do whatever you want. Trust me, most of the times not belonging in crowds is freedom.
I'd rather be reading. Okay writing too. Before picking up a new book, I need to finish the note on the book I've completed.
