After completing 'eat pray love' I was looking for some thing light,I chose Tagore's short novel 'Two Sisters' ......It is a story of two sisters Sarmila and Urmi (Urmimala).....This novel reflects the dual images of woman as mother and lover..The concept of the story is a simple one which shows the problems occured in the married life of a couple after some years..Sarmila marries Sasanka and they live happily for some time..She takes care of every small thing about him very carefully..Not just being a wife but she takes care of him like a mother..After some time he looses interest in her motherly love...When Sarmila falls ill suddenly,her sister Urmi mala have to stay with them to look after the household things of her sister's family...Urmi is a girl full of life,she is quite opposite to her sister...She is beautiful,enthusiastic,very active girl ...One should look after her..She is always at the receivng end like a child...Thus the two sisters represent the two personalities of women,one,homely and comforting and other outgoing,glamourous and provocating...Sasanka attaracted by Urmi,neglects his wife,business and all...Understanding her husband's miserable condition Sarmila prepares herself to accept Urmi as her co-wife....The love triangle ends with the departure of Urmi to Europe leaving the couple...The story is very simple but the author's narration gives a beautiful experience to readers...
It is impossible to get all the interesting qualities in one person...If we are not satisfied / happy with what we have and keep on searching ,we have to love the whole world...:-) Isn't it ???

Lovely review. Provides a gist of the story and at the same time piques the interest of the reader enough to make him look up the book at his local library.

I have not read this story.. yet reflect that in present circumstances, particularly the urbanite need more two-way companionship rather than merely lover or mother-like-caretaker.

I agree with you..This story also reflects the present circumstances,where it is not enough to have one good quality in a girl/boy,People are in search of more and more perfectness..:-)
