Thirunelli Maha Vishnu Temple - Wayanad,Kerala

Indian Bloggers
On Pongal we happened to visit Thirunelli Maha vishnu temple which is known as one of the most ancient temples in Kerala, located on the Brahmagiri hill in Wayanad..The temple is surrounded by deep forests..As it was Pongal time,we started around 11 am without any planning or hurry..The temple is 60 km away from Sulthan Bathery and it took nearly 2 hours for us to reach the place as we stopped at some scenic points on the way..The drive via Mananthavady was a nice experience with greenery on either sides through out the  way...By the time we reached the place the temple was closed and they told that it will be opened again at 5.30 pm only..Meanwhile we finished our lunch in the nearby hotel and waited in the car..Strangely I took a nap meanwhile, which was quite too rare in my case..After 5.30 as we finished the darshan we did a little bit of shopping in the nearby store which includes some spices and herbs..The Temple timings are : Morning: 5:30 am to 12:00 pm, Evening: 5:30 pm to 8:00 pm

The Ganapathi temple on the way to Papanasini..

It is said that this is the only temple in the world where the devotees can perform all the rituals related to one’s life, starting from birth to death and life after death..Thirunelli Temple draws pilgrims from all over, primarily for ancestral rites. The rituals are performed on the banks of the stream Papanasini which flows down from Mount Brahmagiri. It is believed that this stream has divine power to dissolve sins of all the mortals.

The evening view from the temple...

The afternoon meals at the hotel near the temple..

The beautiful Brahmagiri hills and the surrounding lush green forests have made the temple premises a valley of tranquility.
