The Picture of Dorian Gray-Oscar Wilde

My mom's visit to our place was quite fascinating (as myself and my kiddu were not feeling well) which kept me away from books for a couple of weeks....So I gave another start with ""The picture of Dorian Gray""...A very good feast of psycology.

Copy right A Homemaker's Utopia

Coming to the story,A painter called Basil Hallward makes a picture of Dorian Gray,a very handsome young man with a beautiful boyhood heart.....He is very rich and beautiful...He makes a wish that his age should be entirely taken by the picture, leaving the youth to him..His wish was granted..Later his pure soul was manipulated by the painter's friend Lord Henry's debauchery life style...Day by day he turns in to a corrupted person and finds the traces of all his impurities in that picture..His beautiful portrait turns  ugly and horrible with time..But he remains beautiful outside..His beauty and wealth protects him against the degradation from society...After some time he realises that he is on wrong end and wants to change himself...But he is the same inside,His soul have the same impurities with in...The ending of the book was amazing...

Lord Henry's words...
People are very fond of giving away what they need most themselves..It is what I called the depth of generosity...

I never read an Oscar wilde's writing,This is my first one....By seeing the book,I thought I can complete it with in 2-3 days,as it contain less than 300 pages...I was greatly mistaken....It was such a heavy reading...It took almost 2 weeks for me to finish it...I have to go through so many sentences some 3 to 4 times to digest the authors phylosophy..I got complete clarification, why he is known for his wicked wit...OMG he is absolutely genius..You know guys,I'm having a habbit of underlining some lines,I like most from the book....But here I have to mark the whole book if  I want to do so...:-)

In fact, its not my kind of book...It is dark and filled with bitter truths about life, beauty, marriage and so many other things..I can't pretend that I understood the whole book but definitely,I wish to give a second read after some time...Hope I can find a new essence that time...The writing style of Oscar Wilde is wonderful...Hats off to the brilliant writer..hey look at the pic,I have taken.....It reflects the darkness of the book...Is in't it ??

As I told earlier its impossible to pick up the best lines from the book...here are few...

Real beauty, ends where an intellectual expression begins...

There are many things that we would throw away if we were not afraid that others might pick them up....

The worst of having romance of any kind is that it leaves one so unromantic....
