To be free

A whole week of Pongal holidays for my kiddoo, starting from today and I'm already feeling like I'm on cloud 9. After his study hours we are watching a couple of episodes of "How I met your mother" and "Never have I ever", our teen seems to like them :)) Anyways,

"To free us from the expectations of others, to give us back to ourselves--there lies the great, singular power of self-respect." --- Joan Didion from "Slouching towards Bethlehem". This morning I saw this beautiful quote shared by somebody. This evoked a stream of thoughts, nowadays people are always trying to become somebody else they are not. No wonder they do not understand the concept of self respect. It is not simply imitating or copying others, it is owning yourself, accepting the way you are.

The modern man seems to lack a strong sense of self. He strives to become others, wants to belong to the crowds, and in return he sells his soul and integrity. If we keep the good and bad debate aside, the society always forces an individual to conform. They hate everything that is different than them, or something which they cannot understand. With such conformity (in a bad way of course, we must [need] to conform in a god way to several other societal rules) the society had turned into a whole bunch of idiots. (If you want proof, just check various social media platforms, the kind of rubbish majority people entertain/buy) Einstein already predicted it of course.
