The Importance of being Earnest - Oscar Wilde

Its really long time I get in to reading...Now here I'm back to tell you about my recently read book,The Importance of being Earnest by Oscar Wilde.After "The picture of Dorian Gray" ,this is my second book from the author,Hence I was prepared to taste one more serious psycological delight but you know what,it gave me an entirely different experience.Neither the traces of bitter  truths of life nor any deep insights in to mind,its a great entertainer indeed..:-)

The funny play revolves around the four characters Jack,Algernon,Gwendolen and Cecily..A young man  from country side named Mr.Jack Worthing loves Gwendolen,a nephew of Algernon who lives in London..Jack pretend to have a brother in London with a fake name Earnest and often visits London to meet Miss.Gwendolen..In that way he is known as Mr.Earnest in the London society..Gwendolen has a severe passion for the name "Earnest" and she loves him only for that silly reason..On finding out the truth about Jack, Algernon leaves to Jack's place in the country side,with the same name Earnest,and there he succeeds in gaining the affections of Cecily towards him..Cecily is Jack's ward..Gwendolen's mother(Aunt August) won't give her consent to their wedding as Jack is an orphan found in a handbag in a cloak room of a railway station..And here are the two obstacles,first one is Gwendolen's and Cecily's wish to marry the person named, only Earnest and second one is the birth of Jack..So the remaining story is all about how the two couples crossed these obstacles to make their dreams come true..:-)

I have always been of opinion that a man who desires to get married should know either everything or nothing.

All women become like their mothers. That is their tragedy. No man does. That's his.

I am sick to death of cleverness. Everybody is clever nowadays. You can't go anywhere without meeting clever people. The thing  has become an absolute public nuisance. I wish to goodness we had a few fools left.

The good ended happily, and the bad unhappily. That is what Fiction means.

It is very vulgar to talk about one's business. Only people like stock-brokers do that, and then merely at dinner parties.

Never speak disrespectfully of Society, Algernon. Only people who can't get into it do that.

I really enjoyed the conversations between Algernon and Cecily...They are very very funny..Algernon is very clever and Cecily is very childish and stupid girl..:-) I'm unable to understand why most of the clever guys like stupid girls !!! When I asked some buddy,the same,she simply replied  ""Its because they are clever"""...:-))) Strange but true...:-)

The play is really awesome,I felt very refreshing after completing..Happy reading..Have a nice time and enjoy..:-)
