Anna Karenina-Leo Tolstoy

Don't you think its a bad idea of writing a review over a classic ?????.

Well,A pretty good start for me, in this new year....I finally read Anna Karenina...With the book in my hand,I felt like stepping in to an alien country but Tolstoy soon made me feel at home....:-) I simply loved it... Its a very long reading for me,almost 20 days  to finish...

Copy right A Homemaker's Utopia

Breaking her passionless marriage Anna Karenina leaves her husband Alexie and her beloved son Seryozha for Count Vronsky...Anna can not overcome her guiltiness and finally her jealousy and suspicion over Vronsky forces her to end her life....This the plot of the book..But another story runs parallelly..It is of Levin's..It has given equal importance like Anna's character...

All the characters in the book are very alive...Tolstoy,I can say "A master of Characterization" ..The magnanimity of Alexie Alexandrovich,The Almond buttery smile of Oblonsky,The suspicious natures of Dolly and Kitty ,The always confused and a restless thinker,Levin....All are very cute..Among all the characters I loved Levin's..he is very nice fellow..His constant thinking and his love towards Kitty, every thing is very nice....

""Konstantin levin did not like talking or hearing about the beauty of nature. For him words took away the beauty of what he saw.""

Also read  the following lines...

""A man can spend several hours sitting cross-legged in the same position if he knows that nothing prevents him from changing it.But if he knows that he has to sit with his legs crossed like that,he will get cramps, his legs will twitch and strain towards where he would like to stretch them.Thats what Vronsky felt with regard to society...""

I really enjoyed the farming, mowing and hunting parts of the book where the author very nicely introduced the Russian ways of farming in 18th century...The political and religious view of that time are very well told in their conversations...Particularly I loved some parts, Levin proposes Kitty,Vronsky meets Anna for the first time,Levin working in the farm...etc etc...Among 8 parts,I read the 7 parts very interestingly but the last part I felt quite boring, that too after the death of Anna...It was a little surprising to see Anna committing suicide..Anna Karenina,a very special woman, nevertheless she acts as a very ordinary person and commits suicide..Her jealosy, suspicion and angry over Vronsky finally ruins her life....

Even though there are so many heart touching illustrations, here are few lines from the book...

""Some mathematician said that the pleasure lies not in discovering the truth but in searching for it....""

By the way how do you like the pic of my book ???
